ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP
We are delighted to host this workshop run by Leanne Fischler on the basics of bookbinding. Leanne was an intern at MAKLab during the summer of 2015 and is now freshly graduated from Product Design at DJCAD and moving forward with her career as a designer.
Bookbinding is the traditional art of making books by hand. Sheets of paper are sewn together and covered in a protective and beautiful case. In this workshop you will be given an introduction to the basics of bookbinding and leave with your own Moleskine-style hardback book.
In this workshop, we will guide you through the process of making the hardback case for an A6 book using a pre-made “book block” (the set of paper pages inside). You’ll also get the opportunity to customise your handmade cover using a variety of materials and some of the facilities available at MAKLab such as laser cutting and vinyl transfers. You can even bring in your own materials to customise your book such as a piece of (thickish) fabric or some nice paper.
**Please note - This workshop is subject to cancellation in the event of low booking numbers. In the unlikely event, you will be fully refunded and notified the day before the class is scheduled**
